Haze

Haze doesn’t make decks. It makes wheels, it’s French, and it’s worth saying in the first line because plenty of people land here looking for a board that doesn’t exist. What Haze pours is urethane: hard wheels at 99a, 101a and even 103a for street, and soft ones from 78a to 85a in 54 to 60 mm for city rolling, filming and cruising. Bertrand Soubrier started the company in 2010, after running an earlier wheel brand called Travel Wheels, and he still runs it out of the 14th arrondissement of Paris.

History

Soubrier launched Haze in 2010 under his own distribution outfit, Basement Hill. This is not a company with a big warehouse and a front desk: the brand describes itself as “100% independent, made by skateboarders for skateboarders”, with no big money and no structure behind it. In a 2014 interview with the French magazine à propos, Soubrier explained that the distribution had grown enough to live off, and that alongside Haze he was handling Pvlsar (bearings), Screw Heads, Creep’n Crawl and Curb Sucker. Art direction comes from the graphic artist Func’88, and it shows — the graphics are the brand’s signature.

Videos have marked the pace. In 2016 Free Skate Mag posted the Haze promo and introduced Soubrier as a “Parisian legend”. In 2017 Nestor Suki got a welcome edit. In 2021 came Video d’Haze #3 with Bastien Salabanzi, Victor Campillo and Alex Richard, and in 2023 the same magazine covered PORTUG’HAZE, ten days in Porto with the whole crew.

The team

Soubrier still skates and still has his own wheel, which is rare for a brand owner. Around him sit Victor Campillo, Oscar Candon, JP Villa, Michael Mackrodt, Hugo Maillard, Bastien Salabanzi, Alex Richard and Fred Plocque-Santos — a clearly European roster with weight in France, Spain and Germany. There are guest models too, like the Tom Penny “Honorable Guest”, and the brand has released wheels carrying Aurélien Giraud’s name. The roster keeps moving: Aleksandr Burchak and Théo Moga came in during 2024, and Gabry Meliani in February 2026, each introduced with a welcome edit on Vague.

The wheels

The catalogue is organised by graphic series rather than by trademarked formulas. On the hard side sit Sneak, Prime Cut, Death On Acid, Hand Of Doom, Concrete Cutter, Born Stoned, Menace, Stone Age and Hazzy, usually 51 to 55 mm in 99a and 101a, with the odd 103a for smooth concrete. On the soft side you get Big Brauther, Hazemar, Night Crawler, Deflated Dolls and Lurking, 54 to 60 mm in 78a, 83a and 85a. Shapes cover conical, radial and classic. Pro series carry their own names — One Offs, Vicious Slugs, 10 Years — and collaborations include work with Lakai, with Film Trucks (the “Club Pétanque” set) and with the Trois CCD collective.

Who it’s for

If you skate street and want a small, hard wheel with a graphic you won’t see on every board at the park, Haze fits. If you’re rolling around town, look at the 60 mm softs instead.
