Sour

Sour is a Swedish brand that runs out of Barcelona, and that combination explains most of what you see in its videos: a Scandinavian crew that ended up living in the city, filming in 4:3 on the same streets anyone who has skated there recognises instantly. It is not a big company and has no interest in becoming one. In the feature Free Skateboard Magazine ran in March 2026, the whole operation comes down to three people working out of a room in Barcelona, with no large distributor behind them.

History

Sour came out of the collapse of another brand. In a 2015 A Brief Glance interview about the first video, Nisse Ingemarsson laid it out plainly: Sweet Skateboards had new owners, the new owners no longer wanted to pay the team, and Björn Holmenäs had lost his job as team manager — so they started their own thing. The result was The Sour Solution (2015), filmed over two years by Jonathan Lomar on a VX, mostly in Barcelona with trips to Shanghai and Germany. Björn still runs the place: Free’s 2026 piece found him in Málaga wrestling with tariff paperwork while fourteen of the crew headed to Andalusia to finish 3.3, the video Thrasher premiered on 30 March 2026.

The Barcelona connection

This is the detail that sets Sour apart. When Free visited for issue 22 in February 2019, the brand had two bases in the city: an old office the crew called the cave, where Vincent Huhta and Martin Sandberg were still sleeping, and a storefront headquarters near the Poble-sec metro stop. The store is still there in 2026, and the photos in that feature are still shot in Barcelona. Barney Page joined exactly the way you would guess: he told Free in 2021 that he was already living and skating there, hanging out at MACBA and in the bars with the crew, and the whole thing simply fell into place.

The team

Gustav Tønnesen does more than skate for Sour — he films and edits the videos, including The Sour Solution II, which Quartersnacks called 2019’s first video that felt like a moment. Around him are Nisse Ingemarsson, Barney Page, Simon Isaksson (on board since day one), Albert Nyberg, Josef Scott Jatta, Daniel Spängs and Oscar Candon. Vincent Huhta and Martin Sandberg turned pro off The Sour Solution III in 2022, and the most recent additions, announced in the 2026 feature, are Simon Hallberg and Oscar Säfström. In 2024 the company put out a video tribute and a campaign to build a spot in Gothenburg for Alex “Plankton” Andersson, a friend of the crew who had died.

The decks

Sour makes decks and clothing, and both the board graphics and the apparel lines come out of that same Barcelona room. The catalogue is built around team pro models — Barney Page, Gustav Tønnesen, Albert Nyberg, Josef Scott Jatta, Oscar Candon — in widths from 7.75” to 8.75”, with egg shapes and twin tails sitting alongside the standard popsicles for anyone after something less conventional.

Who it’s for

If you want the cheapest deck on the shelf, or endless stock in every shop, Sour isn’t it: it’s small, independent and produces at the pace it can manage.
